A little info on the Dining Hall Expansion Project

The Dining Hall Expansion at Camp Tejas is the first phase of our Main Camp Renovation Project. The expansion and renovation of our current dining hall facility includes approximately 20,000 square feet of additional dining and food service areas, support facilities, and restrooms. The budget for the expansion is $1.5 million.

Within the existing dining hall structure remains one of the original residential houses of Camp Tejas. It was built in the 1950s and transitioned into a dining facility in the 1970s. It was expanded several times until the last renovation in 1984. For the last 26 years, the seating capacity of the dining hall has remained at about 175 while our annual guest count has increased from about 4,000 to over 15,000. Our current average number of guests per meal is over 250 with many meals in the summer exceeding 550.

The dining hall has always been the central gathering location of Camp Tejas. It is a place to fellowship, eat, and get a hot cup of coffee. Unfortunately, our current facility significantly hinders our ability to provide an adequate dining and fellowship environment for all of our guests.

The project will expand the indoor seating to at least 480 and the outdoor seating to over 100. The indoor seating will include two additional dining areas. The largest area will be added on the main level and the other area will be added to the second floor of the existing facility. Additional cleaning, food preparation, and food station areas will also be added.

Below the large additional dining area will be a sublevel conference room, restrooms, and storage. Because the terrain slopes downward in the direction of the main expansion, the sublevel will open to the outside with the main level on the second floor at the south end. The sublevel conference room will also provide an overflow dining area.
